Love the MTBT and it will grow on you. Initially was in awe, then amused, then annoyed, and now in a good spot. Going to keep it.
Plus Side:
- Design and asthetic appeal - did not know that the great Henry Kloss designed it.
- Sound is amazing - but have no note that all of the FM stations have a similar "sound" probably due to the speaker and same as any radio. Wonder if the top mount speaker (vs front mount on the non-clock models) has any affect here
- Craftsmanship - not just the wood veneer. Take a look at the descriptions on the back panel. There is a straight line drawn to each referenced spot from a place where there's enough room to fully describe the use (no shortcuts here.) Look closer at that simple line - it's etched! Wow.
- Tuning Ability. the MTBT pulls in easily all of the low-number PBS stations that that put out enough wattage - I can hear Chicago's famous WFMT effortlessly. My old Boston Acoustics RECEPTOR model radio could not do this - not even with an external Terk antenna. And I don't even need to raise the supplied external FM antenna (a real antenna, not a limp wire to drape over the lampshade.
Realities:
- The Alarm is not the strong point. It tells you that given the analog nature, the alarm setting can be off a few minutes and to try it a few mornings to perfect it. Yes I can do that but when I have to change the alarm to wake up a bit earlier the next day and think I set it or 6 and it doesn't go off till 615 - yikes. A few times I have even not…
