Maison Acacia is located in the heart of the historical center of La Ciotat, a beautiful coastal town in the Southern France's Cote d’Azur region. This “residence de charm” is an 18th-century provincial style townhouse with French artisanal elements such as, terracotta tiles from Salernes, solid oak beams, and traditional tiles with cabochons. These are only some of the many design aspects that make this property dreamy and a special place to stay at.
The rooms are uniquely decorated, influenced by the owners' travels in Latin America, each emanating a relaxed coastal vibe. And guests love that they have the ability to buy any decor pieces of their choice from their rooms as a one-of-a-kind souvenir.
We got a chance to speak to Tom and Lea, the talented husband and wife team behind Maison Acacia, to get to know more about their guesthouse and get their insiders tips.
Tell us about the design and architecture of your guesthouse.
It's a traditional Mediterranean-style townhouse built in the 1800s by French artisans. The house has a majestic staircase protected by a light well in glass slab, terracotta tiles from Salernes, solid oak beams, and traditional tiles with cabochons.
For someone that's never visited the region, tell us about the location of the guesthouse.
The house is centrally located in the heart of the historical center which makes it easy to discover the city, its many shops, and provincial charm. The beaches are short 10-minute walk from the guesthouse and the National Park of the Calanques is only 15-minutes away. There are also three local markets close to the guesthouse, including two on the port which have a unique atmosphere.
How would you describe the interior design style & inspiration of your property?
The decoration of the house was inspired by our travels. There are many influences from Latin America, especially Buenos Aires, but also from Mexico, a country that we had the chance to discover recently. We also put emphasis on Mexican craftsmanship because most of the lighting fixtures in the house were made by hand by artisans from Mexican provinces.
When staying at the property, what's the "can't miss" feature?
The can’t miss feature has to be our renovated patio, which is quite rare in the historic center of La Ciotat. Covered by the shade of a majestic Acacia tree, the outdoor space is a perfect place for guests to relax, meet for coffee, and iced tea in the summer, or hot chocolate in the winter.
What are the Tivoli Audio products of choice in the hotel and what factors made Tivoli the right fit for the property?
We have always loved the brand thanks to our parents who are also fans. We found the design and wood details unique, as well as the remarkable audio quality, even in the smallest models.
At the guesthouse, we have the Model One Digital for its modern take on the classic Model One radio, and the Revive that is perfect for our guest rooms with its integrated light and induction charger. Lastly, the small and portable CUBE wireless speaker, is perfect for indoors and out.
Is there a unique element that differentiates your guesthouse from others?
The very principle of being able to buy whatever you like in the room or common areas. Each room has its own unique design, and after each sale we replace the item that was bought with something new, so the rooms and decorations are constantly evolving.
We also have iPhones at your disposal with unlimited calls / SMS as well as the MAPSTR application filled with our favorite places in the city! It shows you all the good restaurants, beaches, and things not to be missed in La Ciotat and its surroundings. All carefully selected and tested by us, for you!
Lastly, the convenience of staying in the heart of the city and being able to discover the city by foot is a memorable experience.
