What inspired you to get into music?
Always loved music. Was one of those kids that used to sit in front of the tv for hours watching Michael Jackson VHS in the early 90’s. And then ‘Streets is watching’ dropped I was hooked. So, I’ve always carried it with me, and always wrote music. Getting' older just got more and more comfortable with displaying and voicing my real-life experiences.
How would you describe your sound?
Soulful, sometimes dark but always poetic.
What artists would you say are your influences?
The artist I listened to the most growing up. Hov, Nas, Fab, Teddy Pendergrass, New Edition. I’m a blend of all that in one.
What’s your favorite local spot/venue to perform in?
Big Night Live hands down. Something about the aesthetic of that place, gives me a real Great Gatsby vibe.
What does it mean for you to be one of the artists selected to represent the region at Boston Calling?
It means everything to me. I keep telling people this is going to be the most Boston, Boston Calling set anyone has ever seen. I feel like it’s the biggest stage my city has to offer & I feel like it’s right on time for where I’m at with music. I feel like I really represent Boston and always have. To be acknowledged and given this opportunity, really being from the town — is a statement itself, to time.
What acts are you most looking forward to seeing at Boston Calling?
Looking forward to seeing Van Buren live, haven’t had a chance to catch a show and really love the energy and what they’re offering to the scene. Also, looking forward to seeing Miranda Rae live.
